I painted this original oil painting from a picture I took on our honeymoon in Napa Valley (as shown). We visited Castello di Amorosa, an Italian inspired winery, and instantly fell in love with their wine and vines! I was captured by the shapes of the large leaves and how each grape was its own blue/purple color!
I created this artwork while sitting outside alla prima (which means all in one sitting). I sat on my porch in the summertime while my dogs ran and played in the yard. It was so relaxing.
I used the impasto technique of layering paint on thickly so the painting has texture. I painted lighter and darker shades of green to simulate the sun shining on the vines as it was in September 2016 when I took the photograph. I still hear the rustling of the leaves as the wind moved through each endless row of vines. This oil painting is awesome up close and far away.
It would make a great wall hanging in a dining room, kitchen, or over a wine bar.
